Every large workplace seems to have an employee like that. No one could remember when they were hired, or for what, frankly, but there's an unspoken understanding that letting them go would probably be more of a hassle than just putting up with them until they die of natural causes.

Ha! Actually, having been self-employed for twenty years, I have a horrible feeling that the guy who fits that description in my outfit might actually be me.
