LICAF Sketches XVII
Last sketch from the Lakes Comic Art Festival. Tomorrow I'll start a short run of sketches from the Nottingham Comic Con, then we'll see what I managed to drag back from Thought Bubble.

The Uncovered Cover
Here's another morsel discovered in my studio clearout – an unused cover idea for what must have been the preview issue (or "#0" if you prefer) of Snarked. I'm glad we went with the one we did, but this one would have been a lot of fun.

2D Warmup Sketch #2
Second warmup sketch. I'm writing this on Thursday but scheduling the post for Friday, so I should be in Derry by the time this goes live. Come see me at the 2D Comics Fair tomorrow and Sunday!

Boojum!
Found this in a notebook from around the time I was developing Snarked!. I can't help feeling I was on to something I utterly failed to follow through.

Mister W and Mister C
One more Snarked-related one, partly because it's there, partly because I'm a day behind and this gets me up to date. No, take it - I insist.
Hey, did the new Rocketeer come out today? I think it might have.
What the Hecate
Madame Hecate from Snarked - a weird sort of cross between my teacher when I was nine and Wilma Flintstone. I quite like the Extra Stompy Action in this one.

You're Not My Granddaughter
Found on the hard drive: a Scarlett and Walrus drawing I have absolutely no memory of making. Where are me pills again, nurse?

Snark Me Sideways!
Well! It would appear, judging from the box of books that awaited me on my return from Southern Climes, that the third and final collection of Snarked! is either out now or about to hit the stores any day. The book was an absolute joy to work on and I'm very proud of it. Please, if you were waiting for the collections, do the decent thing! And tell your friends!

Snarked meets Liberty Meadows
This piece was done as a fundraiser for last year's Baltimore Comic Con. The brief was to celebrate creator-owned comics... by getting cartoonists to draw characters created by Frank Cho. (Yeah, I don't think that one was thought through very well.)
I'm not particularly a fan of Liberty Meadows - I checked out a bunch of strips while gathering reference for this image, and I don't think I laughed once - but the character designs are pretty nice.
Anyway, Baltimore was a blast regardless, so I'll be coming back this September. Be nice to try and hit SPX on the same trip, which is just a week later - if I can register fast enough this year! (I'll be on a plane between London and New Zealand on the day SPX table bookings open, so I may be screwed already... we'll see.)

And now: A word from the Walrus...
We here at the Hotel Fred have recently received this communication from one Wilburforce J. Walrus, late of this parish. Take it away, W.J. ...

"Well, I do declare, McDunk - Snarked! # 8 is in the stores already! And, as it's the final part of our second volume, I exhort you to get thee down to that store without delay!
"All gone? Good.
"What? What's that I spy? A few stragglers? No, no, no! This will never do! Why, if you need convincing, may I direct you to this spiffing preview of the aforementioned publication to whet your appetite to a fine edge!
"What's that you say? No comic store near you? Fie! Poppycock! Why, it has never been easier to acquire Snarked! Simply order it direct from the publisher - or read the blessed thing upon your digital device of choice!
"What's that, McDunk...? You can't read?
"You... can't... read.
"Sigh.
"Just look at the pretty pictures then, McDunk... just look at the pretty pictures."

What's This? Free Comic Books?
This Saturday is Free Comic Book Day. That's right - I said Free Comic Books! To celebrate this most worthy event, I will be appearing at Gosh! Comics
(in London's glittering West End) doing drawings with the kids, possibly
painting in their window and other shenanigans. I'm down for their
2pm-2:30pm slot, between Louis Roskosch and Karrie Fransman, but I
expect I'll hang about a bit longer, as is the way of these things. Full
details here!
And last but not least, the Kickstarter for The Graphic Textbook is ongoing, and needs your support! Yes, YOU! Not you at the back - oh, what the heck, yours as well. And yours. You too, madam, if you can get your hand out of that jar of pickled eggs for a moment. Go here - or just click through the card floating in the sidebar to your right. Comics in schools - what could be better?
