The Twit Walks Among You

I got the dates wrong last time. Young Boris appears in Time Out this week, not last week. Readers are requested to make the necessary adjustments. (Update: It seems to have made the front page of the Media Guardian. Good lord.)

That witty and talented gent, Mister Chris Duffy, at Nick Mag asked me to do some comics for him this week. It looks like I can just about squeeze it in before the Muppets kick off . It's my interpretation of a TV show I've never seen or heard of called Back at the Barnyard -- currently wading through tons of reference and watching online video clips to get myself up to speed (Warning: that link has enought Flash junk at the other end of it to give my computer a small hernia). It'll be eight pages of cartoon goodness when it's done. The boy bovines all have udders in this crazy mixed-up world, apparently -- that, or four willies. Which I rather think would alter the entire character of the show.

Just for kicks, and because I don't have any other visual embellishments prepared this week as such, here's some old Nick Mag stuff for you to ogle. This is from a Spongebob Squarepants story I worked on in which Spongebob is reimagined in the styles of various old-time cartoonists. I remember thinking at the time that I'd been typecast...

"It Tickles!"

Or something to that effect (I forget the exact wording now). This was a Jimmy Neutron gag for Nickelodeon Magazine, which is a few months old now so I guess it's all right to post it. Yet another case of me being asked to draw a character from a television programme I've never seen and getting away with it. This seems to be what the paying part of my working life largely consists of nowadays.

Densa

This is a job I did for Nickelodeon Magazine last year -- the gag is that it's an organisation for dimwits called Densa, and you're supposed to find all the things in the picture that have the sound "duh" as a part of their names. Watch a man in his late thirties panic when he realises he has absolutely no idea who Hilary Duff is.

Scribbler's Ruin

When I'm not drawing funnybooks, I'm drawing illustrations for national (and occasionally international) magazines. So, from now on, I'm going to post those jobs here. Partly because I want them to be seen, and partly because I want to convince myself I'm not as lazy as the nagging voice in the back of my head thinks I am. Here's one I finished a couple of days ago for Nickelodeon Magazine. (Apparently, 3D whiz Ray Zone is going to turn this one into 3D, which should be a hoot.) If you click the picture once, it gets big. If you click it twice, it gets very big indeed.
