Plenty of It

Day Two of the Manga Studio experiments. Found a brush I don't hate, but still not great for drawing quickly. Persevering.

  1. What's the brush you don't hate? I'd love to know the specifications of the tools you're using.

    1. It's one of the Frenden set called 'Big Tex", but I had to customise it a bit. And then I lost my customised settings when I switched brushes. There must be a way to save the settings, I just haven't found it yet...

    2. You can save the settings, by far the easiest way is to customise the brush as you like then create a new brush (pressing the little page icon beside the bin icon - both are below the list of brushes) this will create a new copy with your settings as the default, you can then name that "Rogers Brush" (or whatevs). You can also edit a brush and save the settings as the default (but it's more complex than this little window will allow me to explain!)

  2. Thanks! I'm curious about the Frenden brushes - I'll have to try those out.

Yeah, you can lock customizations. In the version I have (Clip Studio Paint EX, version 1.4.1), there's a little icon in the upper right corner of the customization area, immediately to the right of the image of what the brushstroke is supposed to look like. If you hover over it, it says "lock sub tool and do not save changes". Click on that to lock or unlock the settings on a particular brush.

  3. It sounds like your brush must have it's settings locked in the tool property menu. If you uncheck the lock button there, it should keep any settings you change. Looks like this: http://ronchan.net/webstuff/uncheck.jpg

    1. Thanks! And I've just installed your Sallydog brush - looking forward to playing with it.

  4. Glad I could help!

For what it's worth, it took me awhile to get acclimated to Manga Studio, but I've been using it exclusively for drawing my black and white (and grayscale) weekly webcomic, and Manga Studio has saved me countless hours since last autumn when I started drawing it. It's not as intuitive as just picking up a real brush or pen, but I find it's a lot easier now that I'm used to using it.

The spam filter is back on because it just goes berserk if I switch it off. Sorry - I'll get to your comments ASAP!
