Brown Thing

Been a while since I've posted any Horrible Histories illustrations, so here's one from the vaults which I don't actually remember drawing. I rather like the penwork on this one, although in hindsight I don't think I quite captured the Martin Brown look as much as I probably thought I had at the time.

Counting down the days now until the Web and Mini-Comix Thing. And indeed until Muppet Show #1, which will be within a couple of days of one another. Currently drawing issue #3, writing issue #5 and wondering what the world outside looks like...

  1. Oooh. Issue number 5? Who would be showcased in that or will it be just a general Muppet Show free-for-all comic? I am looking forward to the launch!

  2. I should clarify: when I say Issue #5, I mean my fifth issue, but it's the first of a new four-issue story arc called "The Treasure of Peg-Leg Wilson". It looks like Boom will be starting with a new #1 every four issues, which isn't how I'd do it (but I wouldn't do variant covers either). It's still #5 to me!

  3. Intriguing! The Muppets deserve that sort of freedom in the format. However, a character driven comic featuring just the Electric Mayhem would be cool too.

Incidentally, I just surfed over and caught the CBR preview of issue one. I have had strong opinions about the character design, but it does appear to be evolving nicely and it is a particularly handsome comic book. There's no way to please all the fans with all the interpretations, but this fanatic is quite pleased so far.

The thing that floored me is the writing. Your Muppet comic plays out like exciting storyboards for a televised Muppet Show! I can see shades of Jerry Juhl in your work and I imagine that bit with the frogs would probably make Jim Henson smile. Mr. Langridge, you should be writing their new show for television.

You achieved the impossible: The Muppet Show in comic book form. I will collect them in every color.

  4. Thank you sir! It means a lot to me to know that I've made a favourable impression on one of the faithful. You guys are a tough crowd!

  5. Hi Roger

Your MB looks more Langridge than Brown, but that's a good thing! Martin loved your work on HH collection, dunno if I told you that.

How goes the Captain story. I'm guessing my style was more Davis than Marvel :-D

  6. If you are allowed to say, is this "Treasure of Peg-Leg Wilson" four-issue storyarc going to be promoted as "The Muppet Show", or will it be a more general "Muppets" comic?

  7. It's part of the Muppet Show series, set in the theatre and all - the renumbering every four issue is really just a marketing device. I think "The Treasure of Peg-Leg Wilson" will be a subtitle under the main Muppet Show logo.

  8. Oh, and Rob -I'm writing part four now, and while I'm really pleased with how Craig Rousseau is interpreting it, I still think you would have done a knockout steampunk MODOK. One day, sir...
